JZM #113 August 1 2011 – Sultan 苏力坦餐厅

The dog days of summer are around the corner as the year progresses to August. Time for post season baseball and preseason football for the sports enthusiasts among our dinner club.

Hopefully we will catch sight of Princess Jasmine at Sultan’s Palace!

August officially starts at 7:30 on Dongzhimen Nei #179.

JZM #105 9 May 2011 – XinJiang! 新疆!

XinJiang! is a great name for a restaurant but not the name of the restaurant for tonight…Our place is called QingYaZhai 清雅斋。

So the signboard outside of this place has changed slightly recently but the food is the same quality thick and hearty fare that we have come to love about XinJiang. (Aside: I wonder what Xinjiang people in Beijing think about their food style here in the capital and how much it varies if at all from the real thing out west. We can ask our server tonight.)

The restaurant is on Chaoyangmen BeixiaoJie on the west side of the road just about directly between dongsishitiao and chaoyangmen. Its right at DongSi 5 Tiao. Unfortunately I will not be able to make dinner tonight as I have a late work meeting.

As usual festivities start at 730

JZM #90: 3 January 2011 – Xinjiang Flavor-新疆风味餐馆

All the credit for this find goes to Boaz.  He introduced me to this gem a few weeks ago and I can’t stop eating here.  The menu is huge as is the serving size so be prepared.  Otherwise Xinjiang Flavor is just what the name suggests – a standard Xinjiang restaurant in Beijing. Don’t expect fancy dancing like the Red Rose or Anfunti, here there is just good food at a reasonable price.  I unfortunately will not be at dinner tonight because of rehearsal for an upcoming play that I am acting in but I will be there in spirit.  As usual the fun begins at 730.

JZM #88: 20 December 2010 – Crescent Moon (弯弯的月亮)

Please join us this week at Crescent Moon (弯弯的月亮). Surprisingly, the JM crew has yet to dine at this local favorite which serves up Xinzhang Muslim Uihgur cuisine. Those who are ready to tackle the maze of Dongsiliutiao are in for a treat. Aside from the standard Xinzhang fare, the lamb chuanr, naan bread, and yogurt all are amazing, and they also carry a few local Xinzhang beers which are quite flavorful compared to your average Chinese brew.
