JZM #125 November 13 2011 – Yi Zuo Yi Wang 一坐一忘

Tonight’s restaurant comes to us courtesy of Ava.

“Yizuo, Yiwang”, literally meaning take a seat and forget, is the name of a small hotel in Lijiang, one of the most peaceful small towns in China. Lijiang, unfortunately, is quite a trek for us Beijingers.  If we want to escape the annoyances of city life, our next best bet is the Lijiang-themed “Yizuo, Yiwang” restaurant in Sanlitun. They serve up authentic dishes from the Naxi, Dai and Bai nationalities. And if you are looking for a more mellow liquid escape, sip the low alcohol homemade rice wine, the sulima wine from Lugu Lake or the Bai nationality’s unique “three course” tea. Come relax, mingle and unwind with us this week!”

Recommendations:
Pineapple Rice, Lijiang Baba (a kind of cake), Shangri-la cured beef, Dongba roasted fish

JZM #46: 21 December 2009 Wa Mao (Tile Cat) 瓦猫 (后海店)

Let’s Visit Yunnan’s Delicious Cuisine! and come say Bye to Mai on her last JZM before leaving Beijing.

Where:

11 Dashibei Hutong, Houhai 西城区后海大石碑胡同11号

Tel: 6406 3631

More details: http://www.dianping.com/shop/3220366

The restaurant is originally located on Gulou Avenue, which had a very long history. This newly-opened spot has a great view of its surrounding green plants and traditional Beijing Hutong. You will probably feel that you are dinning in the middle of Lijiang Lake in Yunnan. Its Yunan cuisine is wonderfully done, while its price is not expensive at all. This is the kind of place where you can get first-class service, but middle-class charges for food.

While Alex is haiwai several JZM regulars will be organizing Monday’s dinners. This is my week to lead our discovery.

Monday’s restaurant is 乐都餐吧 (Ledu canba; a/k/a DeTour) delivering specialties from Yunnan province. Ledu has also earned the coveted five stars on Dianping (review); more information and directions appear below. To ensure everyone has a seat at the table please RSVP if you plan to attend; Ledu is a smaller venue and can fill quickly. For any last minute details or changes feel free to call or text me (136.2101.5827).

As usual, JZM starts at 7:30. I hope to see you there.

Cheers,

Sean
